6 days | Jericoacoara – Atins
Optional: 5 days Cumbuco – Tutóia
Wonderful downwinders past deserted, mirror-smooth lagoons and estuaries, small fishing villages secluded from civilization, combined with sight seeing, lots of animals and pure nature await us on this adventure. The river delta, Delta do Parnaíba, is located in Piauí and is the third largest river delta in the world. Explore the untouched interior of the river delta with us by boat and kite at the various pristine spots. The journey continues into the huge dune world with its 1000 small crystal-clear lagoons in the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park in the state of Maranhão.

Your kite level
This downwinder is only for experienced kiters.
There is NO car support in the Delta do Parnaiba.
You have experience in downwinding and have already done several long downwinders.
The downwinders can take up to 5 hours (with breaks), so a good basic level of fitness and reliable equipment are a prerequisite.
Day 1 – 36 km | Jericoacoara – Camocim
My personal favorite downwinder. Past Guriu where we have perfect kite conditions. The water between the cleanly breaking waves is as smooth as glass. Then we come to the estuary, with shallow water in the river and beautiful, somewhat larger waves in the sea. Once we arrive in Tatajuba, we fortify ourselves for the rest of the journey to Camocim, where we spend the night.
Overnight stay: Camocim
Day 2 – 44 km | Camocim – Bitupita
There is relatively shallow water and small waves all along the coast. Apart from a few fishermen, we don’t meet anyone on the way. At one point we cross a river with wonderful, mirror-smooth shallow water into which you can kite a little way. From Bitubita we continue by vehicle to Barra Grande, a kite paradise that is still an insider tip.
Overnight stay: Barra Grande
Day 3 – 52km | Ilha dos Poldros – Ilha do Caju
The Delta do Parnaiba is the third largest river delta in the world. If the wind is strong enough, we will kite around the entire river delta to the island of Caju. We cover the remaining distance to the mainland by boat.
Overnight stay: Tutóia
Day 4 – 50 km | Tutoia – Atins
Mirror-smooth water awaits us in Tutóia. 1 km from the land there is a sandbank that keeps the waves away. We kite out to this sandbank and continue into the open sea, where we ride the small waves all the way to Cabure. There our luggage is loaded onto the boat and taken to the pousada. We cross the river by kite.
Overnight stay: Atins
Day 5 – 18 km | Atins – Rio Negro
When you arrive in Atins, you have the feeling that you have landed at the end of the world. There are no paved roads yet. Getting from A to B is difficult in the fine, deep sand. There are only a few pousadas and restaurants. Atins is still very pristine and untouristy, nestled in a beautiful unspoiled landscape and has an absolutely fantastic kite spot right on its doorstep. At low tide, the water is like a mirror. Kite out to the sandbanks and enjoy the endless space to freestyle. With a good wind we make a downwinder to the Rio Negro. This is the entrance to the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, the huge dune world with its 1000 small crystal-clear lagoons. The park covers 1,550 km2 and has been a national park since 1981 and is the only desert in Brazil.
Day 6 – Return transportation to Jericoacoara
After breakfast, we return to Cabure by boat. The pick-up is already waiting for us there. The journey takes you along the main road and directly to Jijoca, where the entrance to Jericoacaora is located. There we will organize transportation for you directly to your pousada in Jericoacaora.
Approximate arrival time in Jericoacaora: 17:00 hrs
