10 days | Cumbuco – Atins

10 days | Cumbuco – Atins

Optional: 9 Days Cumbuco – Tutóia

On this downwinder we cross 3 states on the north-east coast of Brazil. Get to know the best wave spots in Ceara. Deserted, mirror-smooth lagoons and estuaries, small fishing villages secluded from any civilization await you the further north we kite. Lots of animals and pure nature await you in the Delta do Parnaiba, the third largest river delta in the world, which we kite all the way around. The kite safari ends in the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park in the state of Maranhão, the huge dune world with its 1000 small crystal-clear lagoons.

Your kite level

This downwinder is for experienced kiters only.
There is NO car support in the Delta do Parnaiba.
You have experience in downwinding and have already made several long downwinders.
The downwinders can take up to 5 hours (with breaks), so a good basic level of fitness and reliable equipment are essential.

Day 1 – 28 km | Cumbuco – Paracuru

Our downwind adventure starts after the port in Pecem, a 20-minute drive north of Cumbuco. First of all, fantastic shallow water awaits us. From Taiba onwards, wave lovers get their money’s worth. Between the cleanly breaking waves, the water is as smooth as glass. After a short break in Taiba, we continue kiting to Paracuru. In Paracuru, one of the most popular kite spots in the region awaits us, the legendary flat water and wave spot at the same time.

Overnight stay: Guajiru

Day 2 – 32 km | Lagoinha – Mundaú/Baleia

Today we start in Lagoinha. Another great downwinder with lots of waves awaits us. The route takes you past breathtaking, palm-fringed beaches. After 17 km we reach Guajiru, where a delicious lunch awaits us. A spot made for wave lovers. After another downwinder to Mundau, we head back to Guajiru, where we spend another night.

Day 3 – 36/56 km | Guajiru – Icarai de Amontada

We start right in front of the pousada and continue with small, clean breaking waves and lots of flat water in between. Today’s destination is the small village of Icarai de Amontada. Time has stood still here. With the cozy atmosphere, the good food and the cool caips, it’s hard to continue kiting the next day.

Day 4 – 33 km | Prea – Guriú

After about 2.5 hours by car, we reach Prea, where we start today’s downwinder. First we kite from Prea to Jericoacoara. In 1994, the renowned US newspaper, the Washington Post, voted the area one of the 10 most beautiful beaches on the planet. Jeri is a paradise on earth. It lies in the middle of sand dunes. All roads are made of sand. There is always something going on in the little alleyways and everything is built with a lot of love. In the evening, the whole village makes a pilgrimage to the large sand dune right next to the village to watch the sunset, which is by far one of the most beautiful in the world. Today’s downwinder ends in Guriu, a top kite spot a few kilometers north of Jericoacoara.

Day 5 – 36 km | Jericoacoara – Camocim

My personal favorite downwinder. Past Guriu where we have perfect kite conditions. The water between the cleanly breaking waves is as smooth as glass. Then we come to the estuary, with shallow water in the river and beautiful, somewhat larger waves in the sea. Once we arrive in Tatajuba, we fortify ourselves for the rest of the journey to Camocim, where we spend the night.

Day 6 – 44 km | Camocim – Bitupitá

There is relatively shallow water and small waves all along the coast. Apart from a few fishermen, we don’t meet anyone on the way. At one point we cross a river with wonderful, mirror-smooth shallow water into which you can kite a little way. From Bitubita we continue by vehicle to Barra Grande, a kite paradise that is still an insider tip.

Day 7 – 52km | Ilha dos Poldros – Ilha do Cajú

The Delta do Parnaiba is the third largest river delta in the world. If the wind is strong enough, we will kite around the entire river delta to the island of Caju. We cover the remaining distance to the mainland by boat.

Overnight stay: Tutóia

Day 8 – 50 km | Tutoia – Atins

Mirror-smooth water awaits us in Tutóia. 1 km from the land there is a sandbank that keeps the waves away. We kite out to this sandbank and continue into the open sea, where we ride the small waves all the way to Cabure. There our luggage is loaded onto the boat and taken to the pousada. We cross the river by kite.

Overnight stay: Atins

Option Until Tutóia

Those who have booked the downwinder option to Tutóia will take the downwinder to Cabure. After the downwinder, we return to the pousada in Tutóia. The return journey is the next day (day 9).

The downwinder to atins is carried out from 3 participants!

Day 9 – 18 km | Atins – Rio Negro

When you arrive in Atins, you have the feeling that you have landed at the end of the world. There are no paved roads yet. Getting from A to B is difficult in the fine, deep sand. There are only a few pousadas and restaurants. Atins is still very pristine and untouristy, nestled in a beautiful unspoiled landscape and has an absolutely fantastic kite spot right on its doorstep. At low tide, the water is like a mirror. Kite out to the sandbanks and enjoy the endless space to freestyle. With a good wind we make a downwinder to the Rio Negro. This is the entrance to the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, the huge dune world with its 1000 small crystal-clear lagoons. The park covers 1,550 km2 and has been a national park since 1981 and is the only desert in Brazil.
